NASL: Push For Postseason Continues As Fall Season Nears Midway Point

NEW YORK – Week 8 of the Fall Season got underway on Wednesday night as Indy Eleven pulled out a dramatic win over North Carolina FC. Veteran Eamon Zayed scored the lone goal in stoppage time at Carroll Stadium.

Now, Indy continues its week on the road in a matchup with FC Edmonton on Sunday while North Carolina returns home to face Puerto Rico FC in the only Saturday night contest.
Also on Sunday, the New York Cosmos and Jacksonville Armada FC continue to vie for the upper hand to earn a place in The Championship, the NASL’s four-team postseason tournament. Jacksonville takes on the Cosmos at MCU Park after recently earning a win there.

North Carolina’s four-game unbeaten streak came to an end with a loss to Indy Eleven during a midweek clash. The club, which sits in third place in the Combined Standings will look to rebound from the loss at Sahlen’s Stadium against Puerto Rico FC, which is an opponent the club has had success against. North Carolina has won three of the four previous meetings this season. The last matchup, which came in Cary, N.C., however, did end in a 1-1 draw.
Puerto Rico began the Fall Season in strong form, but back-to-back losses to Miami FC have slowed down the club’s chances of getting to the postseason. The club, after a tough Spring Season, virtually has to win the Fall Season to reach The Championship. The climb back up the standings has to start for Puerto Rico on Saturday night.

FC Edmonton enters the weekend after a tough loss at home a week ago. The club fell, 3-0, to North Carolina FC at Clarke Stadium and the defeat ended a five-game unbeaten run for the Eddies. Edmonton won its last game against its next opponent, Indy Eleven, 3-1. Dustin Corea scored twice in the win as Albert Watson scored the other goal.
Indy claimed a victory against North Carolina on Wednesday with Eamon Zayed scoring the winning goal in stoppage time. It ended a five-game winless streak for the club, which is hoping to gather momentum for a late push to The Championship. The Boys in Blue secured a 2-1 win in their last visit to Clarke Stadium when David Goldsmith and Zayed got on the scoresheet.
New York Cosmos vs. Jacksonville Armada FC

The New York Cosmos head into Sunday’s contest against Jacksonville Armada FC hoping to end a six-game winless streak. The club, which has had four draws during that span, last recorded a victory on July 29. New York’s last time on the field came in a wild 3-3 draw with Miami FC. Javi Márquez scored and assisted a goal in the contest in Miami. The Cosmos can jump above Jacksonville in the race to the postseason with a victory.
Jacksonville can make it three wins in a row on the road if the club can pull out the result on Sunday. In the last meeting with New York, an own goal and a first club goal from recent addition Ciarán Kilduff was enough for Armada FC to claim all three points. Jacksonville currently sits in the final position for the postseason.
