NASL: Miami FC Fends Off the Miami Fusion, 2-1

The Miami FC’s preseason schedule continued, Saturday evening, with a matchup against the Miami Fusion.

The Orange and Blue looked strong early creating multiple dangerous chances, but it would be the Fusion that struck first, taking the lead after catching the Miami FC with a counter attack.

The Miami FC did not fret, controlling possession and pressing the Fusion at all times.

Stefano Pinho almost came up the immediate response with some brilliant individual play. He picked up the ball near the center circle and then sped past the entire Fusion defense, creating a 1v1 chance. He slipped the ball past the oncoming keeper but the ball found the far post.

Miami’s high press finally paid off near the end of the first half. Blake Smith delivered a fantastic cross from the left flank with Jaime Chavez rising above the defense and equalizing with a strong header.

The second half would see the Miami FC dominate the rest of the match with great possession play.

Michel’s full array of skills were on display early on as he single handedly created two chances almost immediately. The first saw a routine corner kick nearly become an olimpico but for a last-second punch by the keeper. The second would serve as the match winner as his corner kick found Rhett Bernstein far post for a tap in goal.

With a lead in hand, the Orange and Blue would not relinquish the lead by retaining possession and keeping the Fusion on its heels.

The match became chippy at the end but the Miami FC held on for the, 2-1, victory.

The Miami FC’s preseason schedule comes to a close on March 18, when the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the USL make the trip south to St. Thomas University. The match will be free and open to the public.
