MARLINS: Dietrich Joins Jacksonville on Major League Rehab Assignment

Miami Marlins infielder Derek Dietrich has been placed on a major league rehab assignment with Double A affiliate Jacksonville and joined the Suns in Pensacola.

Dietrich was placed on the 15-day disabled list on August 23 (retroactive to August 19) with a right knee contusion. Dietrich has played in the majors all season for the Marlins, hitting .276 with four home runs and 32 runs batted in in 106 games played for the Marlins, mostly playing at second base or first base.

Dietrich has played for the Marlins in parts of four seasons since 2013, and is a career .248 hitter with 28 home runs and 96 RBI.

Dietrich spent most of his 2013 season with the Jacksonville Suns, hitting .271 with 11 home runs and 38 RBI, his first season in the Miami organization after being acquired in a trade from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for shortstop Yunel Escobar on Dec. 4, 2012.

Dietrich, 27, is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and played in college at Georgia Tech.

The Suns roster now stands at 25 active player
