MLB: Miami Marlins Drop Series Opener to Mets, 5-3

MIAMI – The New York Mets opened their road series with the Marlins with a 5-3 win Friday night before 23,661 in Miami.  Jose Reyes had three hits and James Loney added a two-run homer in the ninth.

The Marlins’ Christian Yelich went 2-for-4 with a double, a two-run homer and two runs Friday against the Mets. Yelich hit his 10th home run of the year to tie the game at two in the sixth inning of a home loss. He’s now hit safely in nine straight games.

Reyes went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base. He scored twice on a pair of sacrifice flies by Yoenis Cespedes, including the go-ahead run in the seventh after the Marlins had tied the game. Reyes led off the game with a double, stole third and scored on Cespedes’ first sac fly. He also singled in a run with two outs in the fourth to give New York a 2-0 lead.

Hansel Robles (5-3) picked up the win for the visitors. David Phelps (4-5) took the loss, Jeurys Familia recorded his 34th save of the season for the Mets.

MARLINS NOTES:  Christian Yelich hit his 10th home run, setting a new career high, and had two RBI, tying his career high of 54 from 2014. He also leads the team with 33 multi-hit games….Miguel Rojas tied a career high with his seventh double. He has hit safely in his last six starts (.381/8 of 21).,,,Martín Prado notched his first pinch hit of the year and is batting .526 (10 of 19) in his last six home games….J.T. Realmuto has hit safely in seven of his last eight games (.303/10 of 33)….Adam Conley (3.58; 6.0 ip, 6 h, 2 r, 2 er, ibb, 3 so, hb, 94/61) took his second straight no-decision…Manager Don Mattingly challenged a call with two outs in the top of the eighth that Alejandro De Aza was safe trying to steal second base. The call was overturned (0:34). The Marlins are 24 pf 37 on challenges this season.
