New Content Deals Are Great News For Miami

If you are a Hurricanes fan and are craving for more content, then you are a happy person this weekend. First came the long-awaited announcement that the ACC Network, and an all-digital opportunity for live events, will finally become a reality in the not too distant future. Then on Friday, Silver Chalice, the Chicago-based media company that launched the ACC Digital network, announced an expansive partnership with Twitter in the fall for live games and On-Demand and highlight programming across the college sports landscape. That deal is the largest partnership that Twitter has done this far in sports, and is a signal of the escalation of content engagement coming on Twitter, Facebook Live and the like.

While the ACC Network is off a few years the Twitter partnership is not, so highlights from Canes games (live events will be from The Mountain West, Patriot League and West Coast Conference) will be here this fall.

“Twitter is the fastest way to see what’s happening in sports,” said Anthony Noto, Twitter’s chief financial officer said in a statement Friday. “Our partnership with Campus Insiders will bring live streaming video of college sports directly to the people who are already talking about it on Twitter, all on a single screen.”

Campus Insiders which is also under the Silver Chalice umbrella, is the digital first network dedicated entirely to college sports, and will stream the live college games on Twitter with an extensive line-up of football, basketball, lacrosse, soccer, baseball, volleyball, field hockey, water polo and swimming. In addition to live events, Campus Insiders and the ACC Digital Network will contribute timely video and on demand clips of game highlights, breaking news and “must see moments” from the top ranked schools and colleges across the country on Twitter.

“Streaming live games directly on Twitter is a natural evolution of the fan experience,” added Brooks Boyer, CEO of Silver Chalice in a release Friday. “Unlike traditional broadcast and cable networks, Campus Insiders is set up perfectly to adapt to the evolving media landscape, and we are thrilled to be able to demonstrate this groundbreaking opportunity for our Conference partners, the student athletes we cover and the millions of fans with a passion for college sports.”

Whether it is live, highlights or On demand, one thing that continues to be clear is content is king, and the ACC, in the escalating battle for college supremacy, is building its assets both short term and into the future. That’s good news for all around The U.
