SUNS: Dean and Sierra Celebrate Two-Homer Night in Win

BILOXI, Miss. – The Jacksonville Suns (14-18) defeated the Biloxi Shuckers (19-12) by a 9-1 score at MGM Park in the second game of the five game series on Tuesday night.

The Suns hit four home runs in the game, two from Austin Dean, and two from Moises Sierra for Jacksonville’s first multi-homer game of the season. Dean finished the game 3-for-5 and tied his career high with five RBI, also had two homers and a triple to his credit.

Suns starting pitcher and Marlins No. 3 prospect Jarlin Garcia (1-2) earned his first win of the year with his five and two-third scoreless innings of work, allowing only three hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Shuckers starter Jorge Ortega (0-3) took the loss by allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits with two walks.

Dean’s leadoff triple in the top of the second jumpstarted the Suns offense. He was quickly brought home on a sacrifice fly by Brady Shoemaker to make it 1-0, before Sierra blasted his first homer of the night, a solo shot to left that gave the Suns a 2-0 advantage.

In the third, J.T. Riddle extended his hitting streak to seven games on this road trip with an RBI single that gave the Suns a 3-0 lead, before Dean smashed a three-run homer to left that put the Suns in front 6-0. Sierra added his second homer in the fifth inning to put the score at 7-0, before Dean hit a two-run homer in the seventh for a 9-0 score. The Shuckers did get a run in the bottom of the seventh when Brandon Macias hit a solo homer off Suns reliever Victor Araujo to put the score at 9-1, which would be the final.

Suns reliever Raudel Lazo worked a perfect ninth in his return to the Suns bullpen to preserve the 9-1 win.

The Suns will return to action in game three of the series on Wednesday night against the Biloxi Shuckers at MGM Park at 7:40 p.m. ET. The Suns will start right-hander Austin Brice (1-1, 1.29 ERA) against Biloxi left-hander Josh Hader (0-1, 0.94 ERA).
