SUNS:Smith Tosses Strong Five Innings, Juengel Homers in Win

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Suns (2-1) defeated the Jackson

Generals (1-2) by a 3-1 score Saturday night from Bragan Field.

Chipper Smith (W, 1-0) took the mound for the Suns and went five strong innings only allowing on unearned run on three hits and two walks while striking out one. Generals starter Tyler Pike (L, 0-1) took the loss in 4 and 2/3 frames pitched surrendering three hits, two runs (one earned), three walks , and three strikeouts. Nick Wittgren (S, 1) closed the door in the ninth tossing a scoreless frame while fanning two Generals batters.

The scoring began in the top of the first for the Suns, when Kenny Wilson led off the frame with a double, then would be knocked home three batters later following Viosergy Rosa’s RBI single giving the Suns a 1-0 lead.

Tyler Smith then tied the score in the fifth when he ripped a run scoring double scoring Jack Reinheimer and tying the score at a run apiece.

In the bottom of the same frame, Jacksonville retook the scoreboard advantage courtesy of Zach Cox’s RBI single that brought home Isaac Galloway and pushed the Suns up a run now leading 2-1.

To the eighth, and Matt Juengel (HR, 1) continued his hot hitting with a home run to left doubling up Jacksonville’s lead to 3-1 through eight innings of play.

For Jacksonville, Craig Stem came in the sixth and hurled two scoreless innings while striking out one. Gregg Nappo worked a scoreless eighth in relief.

The Suns and Generals will be back at it tomorrow with first pitch at Bragan Field slated for 3:05 p.m. ET. The Suns will send right-hander Kendry Flores to the mound for his first start against Generals righty Dylan Unsworth in his opening appearance.
